Complete Restoration

The complete restoration of a saxophone at J and J Woodwinds includes all work described in our mechanical overhaul as well as the complete refinishing of the entire saxophone. All polishing is performed by hand (no heavy-handed machine buffing!) to minimize any material removal (We concentrate more to the playability of your horn than trying to make appear as though it has NEVER been played. A large percentage of vintage horns have already been almost buffed to death!).

Custom Services

We will replace all worn key finger pearls for an additional charge. This service on worn vintage saxophones, with the original engraving recut, will restore your valuable musical instrument to the original like-new condition. All of our engraving work, either re-cut or that special something extra, is performed by master engraver Sherry Huntley at Artistic Engraving.

We can also modify keys, such as the high E key touch to the newer style up-turned touch, the left little finger table on vintage saxes to a more modern (comfortable!) table, raise left hand palm keys, etc...Just let us know what you have in mind!

We also offer a "Custom 24k Gold Trim" which, if done at the time of restoration, will be an additional cost. On a Silver Plated saxophone the Gold Trim Option would be on the inside of the bell, key guards and all keys. You may contact us for more information and pricing on our Custom Trim Options.

Plating prices are subject to change without notice due to the fluctuating values in the precious metals market and will be reflected on the final invoice.

We also offer brasswind and metal woodwind mouthpiece re-finishing in Pure Silver and 24k Gold Plating. Please feel free to call or email us for more information or if you have any questions.

"Rat Rod" bare brass

For some time now there have been brand new professional brass and woodwind instruments produced by the manufacturer and offered in “bare brass” finishes. These instruments are sold in their shiny new appearance and then, over time, oxidize to become the dull finish horns we occasionally see. There are some considerations that should be made before selecting the “Rat Rod ” finish.

When restoring brass or metal woodwind instruments, the lacquer, silver-plating or gold plating is applied not only for their beautiful appearances but these coatings act as protections against wear. If the instrument is left in the "bare brass" stage, one needs to keep in mind that the elements as well as the acid from the player's own hands will attack the instrument and greatly decrease the life expectancy of your brass or woodwind instrument.

Also, the residue from this oxidation process can be absorbed into the players' system and may not be very healthy at all. Some players have discovered that they are actually allergic to this brass oxidation residue.

J and J Woodwinds does, upon customer’s request, leave a brasswind or metal woodwind restoration in the “Rat Rod”  bare brass finish, but only after having advised of the negative effects.

Dent Removal

Musical instruments are prone to damage under normal care and usage.  Minor dents are common place and most instrument repairs require some dent removal.  J and J Woodwinds, when performing mechanical overhauls and complete restorations, will do minor dent removal on the instrument at no extra charge.  If the dent work becomes excessive, J and J Woodwinds will contact and advise you of any additional charges prior to any work being performed.

Payment

J and J Woodwinds requires a 50% deposit, by either check,  money order , VISA, Mastercard, Discover or by PayPal on all major repair services to cover the expense of various materials, services and related costs incurred while your instrument is in process.   Plating prices are subject to change without notice due to the fluctuating values in the precious metals market and will be reflected on the final invoice. You DO NOT need a PayPal account to use your credit card.
